Well, I spent all last week looking forward towards Bark in the Park (a doggie festival in Ballantyne) so that I would have something to blog about. I've realized that I have a pretty boring life that does not really evoke much blogging. I was so excited... that I forgot my camera! So needless to say, I took Paige (my fat beagle) and met up with Heather (and her two Great Danes Tobey and Bailey) and we drove over to the big church to park. Now, I remember last year that I took Paige to Bark in the Park 2007, there was a long walk from the church to the festival, but I don't believe I quite remembered EXACTLY how far...
Well, about 1.5 MILES into the trek in the 90 degree heat, my precious fatty, laid down and refused to get up. I could not pull her, coax her, or "nudge" her to get up. Yes folks, 0.5 miles before we even REACHED the park where the pups could bark, I was THAT owner, carrying her dog! Believe me, fat girl and I had a serious conversation about her weight gain and I think that my back and arms were wanting to let her know that she would be on a serious diet upon return to the hizzouse.
So we finally REACH the Bark in the Park.... i got to see some pups do some high flying tricks, jump over poles into a pool, and basically leap into a pool to catch their ball.... dedicated those pups were. Anyways, at this point, Heather's Great Dane's (you know the huge 100 lb plus dogs) were terrified of the "community water bowls" that were everywhere. Apparently, it was much better to suffer from dehydration and pant than drink from the bowl that Fido did previously. We got the pups some Yuppy Puppy Ice Cream (which they snubbed their noses at) and then hit up the smoothie station for some human treats.
Then I am sad to say, we cheated and took the shuttle vans (yes we piled 2 Great Danes into a passenger van), Paige sat upfront with her face in the air conditioning) and got in our car and drove home. Poor Paige didn't move from her spot on the floor for the next few hours.
Next year, we'll go earlier so that it's not so freakin' hot! (And maybe I'll bring a camera and bring some water bottles for my dog... I mean, she's classy, she's used to fresh water from the toilet, what was I thinking that she would settle for the Park's "community water bowl?" ;-)
